Literature is a category of writing that includes such works as novels, poems, and plays.

1. Aesop’s fables

2.Aladdin’s Lamp

The Book of One Thousand and One Nights (Persian: هزار و یک شب‎ Hazār-o Yak Šab, Arabic: كتاب ألف ليلة و ليلة‎ Kitāb ‘Alf Layla wa-Layla; also known as The Book of a Thousand Nights and a Night, One Thousand and One Nights, 1001 Arabian Nights, Arabian Nights, The Nightly Entertainments or simply The Nights) is a medieval Persian literary epic which tells the story of Scheherazade (Persian: شهرزاد Šahrzād), a Sassanid Queen, who must relate a series of stories to her malevolent husband, King Shahryar (شهريار Šahryār), to delay her execution. The stories are told over a period of one thousand and one nights, and every night she ends the story with a suspenseful situation, forcing the King to keep her alive for another day. The individual stories were created over many centuries, by many people and in many styles, and many have become famous in their own right. Notable examples include Aladdin, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, and The Seven Voyages of Sinbad the Sailor.

3.Alcott, Louisa May

4.Ali Baba

5.Alice in Wonderland

作者Lewis Carroll,他的两本书Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland和Through the Looking-Glass都是写Alice的。

Lewis Carroll (1832-1898),English logician, mathematician, and novelist, best-known for his classic fantasy novels ALICE’S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND (1865) and its sequel THROUGH THE LOOKING-GLASS, AND WHAT ALICE FOUND THERE (1871).
Carroll used the surrealistic settings of his fantasy world to question the commonly accepted ways of thinking. Unlike other children’s books of the time, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland did not try to teach a moral message. Carroll also wrote poetry which have remained open to all explanations of meaning.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is one of the most celebrated children’s books of all time. Since its publication in 1865 most editions of the beloved tale have featured the work of a single artist. Chronicle Books is proud to present this Classic Illustrated Edition with a unique vision: Lewis Carroll’s original story of little Alice’s tumble down a rabbit hole is brought to life by a wondrous collection of vintage illustrations gathered from the late 19th & early 20th century editions of the book. This oversize edition of the complete text of Carroll’s classic contains examples of illustrations from 29 artists.

–”I can’t explain myself, I’m afraid, sir,” said Alice, “because I’m not myself, you see.”
–”I don’t see,” said the Caterpillar.
–”I’m afraid I can’t put it more clearly,” Alice replied very politely, “for I can’t understand it myself top begin with; and being so many different sizes in a day is very confusing.”
–”It isn’t,” said the Caterpillar.

6.Andersen, Hans Christian

The Ugly Duckling, The Emperor’s New Clothes, The Princess and The Pea…

Andersen”。 Andersen”、“H.C. Ørsted ”、“N. F. S. Grundtvig”,而不是“Søren Kierkegaard”、“Tor Nørretranders”、“Lars von Trier”。

9.Better late than never.
Better late than never——
Better Late Than Never is the debut full-length album by the ska/reggae band The Slackers, originally released in 1996 (see 1996 in music) on Moon Ska Records. It was later remastered and re-released with three additional tracks from the original recording sessions on March 19, 2002 (see 2002 in music) on Special Potato Records.
The album was a notable debut for the band, paving the way for their eventual signing to Hell-Cat Records. It was also a significant departure from the Two Tone and garage rock influences of the band’s early days, instead opting for a sound akin to the traditional ska acts of 1960s Jamaica. The album was produced by noted ska/reggae producer Victor Rice, who later collaborated with members of the band on projects by the Stubborn All-Stars and the Version City Rockers.

10.Better safe than sorry.
Better to be safe than sorry.

11.The bigger they are, the harder they fall.
Do not be discouraged by the size of your problem or the fame of your competitor. (the saying is traced to a boxer preparing to fight an opponent much larger than he was.)

12.A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
The proverb “A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush” is a metaphoric expression meaning that it is better to settle for what you have rather than risk losing everything by attempting to gain more.

This popular proverb is applied to a variety of situations in everyday life because it warns against the effects of greed. Another proverb similar in meaning is the saying, “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence”, which means that what you do not have tends to look better than what you do have.

13.Birds of a feather flock together.
Birds of a feather中的“of a feather”也是一种很老的说法,意为“of a kind”或“of the same species”,因为鸟毛的颜色和形状是区分鸟群种类最明显的证据。 I am not of that Feather, to shake off My Friend when he must need me.(我不是那种在朋友需要我时甩开他的人。) You and I are birds of a feather.(你和我都是同一类人。)That loser Pam ran into my ex-boyfriend Charlie. Birds of a feather flock together, I guess.(那个失败者帕姆投奔到我的前男友查理那里去了,我看他们都是一丘之貉。)

14. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
The ethic of reciprocity or “The Golden Rule” is a fundamental moral principle found in virtually all major religions and cultures, which simply means “treat others as you would like to be treated.
* “Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself: I am the LORD.”
* “This is the sum of duty; do naught onto others what you would not have them do unto you.”
* “What you do not wish upon yourself, extend not to others.”
* “What is hateful to you, do not to your fellow man.”
* “Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you.”

15.A dog is a man’s best friend.
A dog is more faithful than most other animals—and more faithful than many people.
关于狗的电影很多啦,有一部就叫man’s best friend——Man’s Best Friend is a 1993 fictional horror movie in which a genetically-engineered dog turns from man’s best friend into man’s worst nightmare as he attacks everything that moves. This movie is also known to be shown on the cult film Friday. Being watched by John Witherspoon’s character, the scene shown is of the mail man being chased by the genetically-engineered dog.
Every dog has his day.
Love me, love my dog.
work like a dog
(as) sick as a dog
……

16.Don’t count your chickens before they hatch.
(别下定论) / Anything could happen. (任何事都会发生) / Don’t jump the gun.

17.Don’t cry over spilt milk.

18.Don’t cut off your nose to spite your face.
Cutting off the nose to spite the face is an expression used to describe a needlessly spiteful or self-destructive overreaction to a problem. “Don’t cut off your nose to spite your face” is a warning not to act out of pique or pursue revenge in such a way as to damage yourself more than the object of your anger.

The phrase is believed to have originated from a (probably fictional) event that was said to have taken place in AD 867: Viking pirates from Sjaelland and Uppsala landed in Scotland and raided the monastery of Coldingham. When news of the raid reached Aebbe the Younger, the Mother Superior, she gathered her nuns together and urged them to disfigure themselves, that they might be unappealing to the Vikings. In this way, they hoped to protect their chastity. St. Aebbe accomplished this by cutting off her nose and upper lip. The nuns proceeded to do the same. The Viking raiders were so disgusted by the scene that they burned the entire building to the ground.
