the first day of the summer?

米国真是奇怪，夏至居然是夏天的第一天。

看今天的google logo：

In the United States and the rest of the northern hemisphere, the first day of the summer season is the day of the year when the Sun is farthest north (on June 20th or 21st). This day is known as the Summer Solstice.

至点和分点，有些地区作为季节的起点，有的作为季节的中间点。我们就是把夏至作为中间点的，而不是起点。可能和纬度有关，更北的地方，从夏至才开始热吧，其实我们大部分地方也是7、8月最热了，6月底说进入真正的夏天也不为过。

几个相关单词：

  • summer solstice ：夏至
  • winter solstice ：冬至
  • vernal equinox：春分
  • autumnal equinox：秋分

后两者是拉丁文衍化而来的英文：ver = spring, autumnus = autumn

这好像是已经固定化的一个说法了，但是你一定要说spring equinox或者autumn equinox 或者fall equinox来表示春分秋分也是可以的，:)

清明节要来了

清明节终于成为假日了。
